Downtown lane

I love the informality, familiarity, and "messy vitality" of lanes. Cities are experienced in a completely different way through these spaces... inside out and upside down. This lane, behind Jasper Ave. and which I pass by without thought every morning, caught my attention today as it framed the sunlit downtown residential towers rising confidently beyond.

a day sketched...

What turned out to be a fruitful day of sketches began with one from my morning commute - a quick doodle looking towards the downtown core from the LRT station... another beautiful autumn morning.

Across a downtown parking lot at lunch...

And across another one on the walk to the LRT station on my way home... hard to avoid parking lots in this city.

Waiting for my train...

My daughter indulges in some chocolate cheesecake at Block 1812 on Whyte Avenue...

...while my wife checks out some clothing at The Avenue Clothing Co. before we all head home for the night.

Autumn Residential Street

Waiting in the car before our son's baby dedication service at our church... Edmonton's trees are in "full bloom"; this year I am more appreciative of the beauty of autumn in this city.

The Hotel MacDonald

I found a little residential enclave that looks up towards the downtown skyline from across the river. The Hotel MacDonald sits nestled in an otherwise nondescript portion of the Edmonton skyline...

Wild Earth Cafe

Wild Earth Cafe on a Friday evening... surprisingly quiet, and hence a pleasant family outing to end the work week.
